Joe just had an empty placemat and a spare spoon!<\/p>\n<p>As\u00a0we had reserved an earlier sitting, we retired to our bunks at a pleasantly early hour.<\/p>\n<p>This was a good thing as we had an prompt start (5:30 British time) and a long days towing ahead.<\/p>\n<p>The arrival day didn&#8217;t start out particularly well and problems began\u00a0before we had left the boat.<\/p>\n<p>We were all poised to disembark\u00a0when alas, a flat battery and the embarrassment of\u00a0watching the vehicles behind trying to reverse and manoeuvre around us. You could just sense the frustration of the other drivers cursing our caravan! (Which of course wasn&#8217;t the issue).<\/p>\n<p>Brittany Ferries were\u00a0very good\u00a0and it wasn&#8217;t long before one of the engineers appeared with a battery booster and\u00a0then we were on our way to Caceres, in the Extremadura region\u00a0of Spain.<\/p>\n<p>What we encountered next was even less expected.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1093\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1093\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.caravanramblings.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/20160216_095102.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1093\" src=\"https:\/\/www.caravanramblings.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/20160216_095102-300x169.jpg\" alt=\"Almost snowbound in Bilbao\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.caravanramblings.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/20160216_095102-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.caravanramblings.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/20160216_095102-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.caravanramblings.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/20160216_095102-767x431.jpg 767w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1093\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Almost snowbound in Bilbao<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Already close to 1000 miles south of Blighty, this was the weather greeting\u00a0us on our travels from Bilbao to Caceres&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>We finally arrived at the campsite around 17:00, having left Bilbao some 400 miles earlier at around 09:15 in the morning. A note for the return journey &#8211; it&#8217;s around a 4 hour drive from our preferred campsite, El Astral, Tordesillas.<\/p>\n<p>The weather is cold here in Caceres (just a few degrees) but the skies are clear and we are all ready for another early depart tomorrow. We haven&#8217;t even un-hitched the van!<\/p>\n<p>Our evening stroll around the campsite turned into a 1 hours hike into Caceres in near freezing temperatures.
